Jirō Tanabe is the president of the general council.
Jiro is a nice, kind and sweet person. You can tell that he is by the way he talks and acts. Being a General Council President, he is a little strict.
He has yellow eyes with a tinge of green in them. It is said that his eyes perfectly match his deep blue hair. His bangs only sway on the left of his face, He wears blue framed glasses and because of that, his fans call him 'Megane Bishounen'.
Jiro made his first anime appearance in the 12th episode, also Hyouka's 2nd Arc 'Welcome to Kanya Festa!'.
He first appears in episode 12 when Eru asks him, as the president of the general council, to give the Classics Club more stall space. Jirō tells her he can't just approve a request out of nowhere like that, but if she wanted to ask any other clubs to offer the anthology for sale, that would be perfectly fine. Eru thanks him, and then takes her leave.
He then appears in episode 14, asking Satoshi to take a box to the gymnasium. Satoshi asks Jirō if he's going to take a look around, Jirō tells him that a lot of things keep popping up for him, but he has been checking out a few random places. Jirō asks Satoshi if there's anything interesting happening and Satoshi tells him about the theft at the Go Club, someone had stolen some go stones and left a note. Satoshi tells him it's probably a hoax by the club members. Jirō tells Satoshi that he actually heard that the A Capella Club had something similar happen. Satoshi asks if there was any written statement, and Jirō tells him that there was a weird note left in its place.
He appears again in episode 15, attending a magic show with Muneyoshi. They both say hello to Fuyumi, and Jirō also greets Satoshi.
In Hyouka Episode 16, he informs Mayaka and Eru that Muneyoshi was the artist for a poster advertising the festival, and the manga "A Corpse by Evening".
In Hyouka Episode 17, He is amongst the group of students waiting to catch Jūmonji in the Classics Club, he seems to be acting rather bizarre and was unfazed by the completed manuscript suddenly catching fire.
Later in the episode it is revealed that Jirō was actually Jūmonji all along. Hōtarō directly confronts Jirō, and uses it as blackmail to get him to sell copies of Hyōka on the school's website.
Later at the closing ceremony for the festival, Muneyoshi mentions a "strange incident", and then turns to a perturbed Jirō and says "Nice job!" and smiles. Jirō still looks a little disturbed.
They are considered as close friends since they are always seen together because both of them are part of a Council at their school.
They aren't close or anything but Jirō is showing some gestures that he likes Fuyumi.
